This month, our homework theme is Something Dark… Come along and hear the 800 word prose and poetry it inspired. Or try it for yourself.
We’re flexible in our arrival and leaving times, so choose the timings that work for you.
Arrive early for food and chat between midday and 1.30 pm. Then from 1.30 onward it’s your work, feedback, and any writing questions or problems.
We’re a mix of ages and writing abilities; from newer writers all the way through to published.

Join us for our beginnings and endings focus topic at this month’s meeting at the Nottingham Mechanics.
From 1 pm we’ll have our regular session, constructive feedback on your writing.
Then, from 2.30 pm onward, the focus topic is starting your stories, and ending them. We’re also making time for writing problems- if you have them.
If you can’t be there for the 1 pm start, arrive when you can. Or join us for 2.30.
This meeting has a small charge for all attendees, whether a visitor or NWC member. (Sorry, we can’t accept card payments.)

We’re building a writing community, whether you’re a new writer, experienced, or somewhere between the two.
We believe we all benefit by sharing our knowledge and abilities in a positive friendly group.
This month, the homework theme is parties. It can be a poem, or a piece of prose, a story up to 800 words. If you don’t want to read it out yourself, we’ll read it for you. Or write it for your own enjoyment. We don’t mind.
There’s time for lunch and chat between 12.30 and 1.30 pm. From then on it’s hearing your creativity. After that, it’s flexible.

Join us from 1 pm to 4.30 pm as we’re meeting at the Nottingham Mechanics for our regular fourth Friday, in the Boardroom on the first floor (lift available).
From 1 pm we’ll be giving time to manuscript reading for constructive comments- poetry and prose. You can ask writing questions if you need to, and take time to chat.
Alternatively, you might prefer to stop for lunch in the ground floor restaurant. Good food, and great value.
Then, from 2.30 onward, we’ll focus on the 7 Basic Plots in our mini-workshop. So bring something to write on, or with, because they’ll be a practical aspect too.
There is a charge for this meeting: NWC members £3, visitors £5. Membership is available at any time of the year.

Our Saturday at the Playwright, meeting begins at 12.30 pm and goes on to 4.30, but we’re flexible with arrival and departure times.
For our March session, the voluntary homework is to write a piece of prose up to 800 words, or a poem- if that’s your preference. The theme is, Feud.
Arrive early to have time for dinner and chat, before we officially start at 1.30 pm hearing the stories and poems written on this month’s theme.
Then the rest of the meeting is flexible. Our second Saturday meetings are informal, and non-members are welcome.
We’re building a writing community; so whether you’re a new writer, unpublished, or published, come and join us.

Join us for our February, Saturday session in the poets corner room at The Playwright.
This month, the writing challenge theme is Botanical Gardens; a piece of prose up to 800 words, or a poem on the given subject. It’s not compulsory to do this to attend, so come along and hear the resulting works.
Arrive early (12.30), have lunch, chat, and get to know other in our writing community, and then from 1.30 onward it’s the challenge. Have a piece of writing you want to get comments on, or a writing question you want to talk about? Then there’s time for this in the remainder of the session.
Not only is this meeting flexible, but it’s free. We want writers to join in with our writing community, sharing the highs and lows, and experiences.
We’re a friendly group of writers, all of mixed abilities (from new to published) and a wide age range.

Welcome to our Saturday writing community meeting. Our monthly Saturday afternoon at The Playwright returns for 2024, and we hope you’ll join us.
Arrive early, 12.30 pm, and enjoy time to have lunch and chat, before the meeting begins at 1.30.
Last month, the members agreed the writing challenge subject for January will be: Don’t Say Sorry. Write a story up to 800 words (it can be less) and/or a poem. It’s not compulsory, so don’t worry if you don’t have the time, or write that quickly.
We’ll listen to the resulting stories and poems from 1.30 onward, and after that it’s open to attendees. Need constructive feedback on a piece of writing, or is there a writing topic you want to ask about? Then here’s your opportunity.
You don’t need to be an NWC member to join in with our Saturday afternoon meetings, but we hope you’ll like being a part of our writing community and want to join the club- contact us for up to date details and the 2023/24 membership form.

Our September second Saturday meeting at The Playwright, and this is the first of our autumn meetings.
The Saturday meetings allows time to chat, write, and if you’ve done the fun homework- read it out, or not.
Arrive at 12.30 to get lunch, a drink, and chat with other early arrivals. Then from 1.30 pm the session ramps up with the results of the writing homework (set the previous month). But we’re flexible, so don’t worry if you can’t arrive until later.
There’s always a writing session, and the opportunity to read work out for constructive comment.
If you’d like to try the homework theme, here it is: a short story (between 400 and 800 words). ‘At least next time I won’t have to dismantle the piano’.
We finish around 4 pm, and you’re welcome to stay longer. Or if you need to leave early, that’s okay too.
