Saturday Afternoon Writing – Sam Maxfield…
29th September 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
£5Our Saturday Afternoon Writing session returns this month and we’re welcoming back our popular guest speaker from earlier this year, Sam Maxfield.
Join us for a Saturday afternoon of ‘Creating Character through Dialogue’.
- Intro and aims of the afternoon.
- Creating distinct characters through dialogue- using examples and discussion writers will create a two character dialogue where each character can be identified by their style of speaking.
- Editing and redrafting dialogue that doesn’t work. Using examples and discussion, on rewriting and editing, along with time to redraft your own dialogue (this can be the earlier piece created or a short dialogue scene from work you bring with you).
Don’t worry you won’t be expected to read anything out, but you will be encouraged to take part in discussions.
There will be a comfort break mid-afternoon, giving the opportunity to get tea, coffee or a cold drink from the bar on the ground floor if needed.
You don’t have to be an NWC member to attend as we welcome visitors to all our meetings (for a small charge).
Non-members can book online now.
Whatever your writing level; by the end of the afternoon you will have more confidence in your ability to create distinctive character dialogue and also have a piece of writing that you can take home and continue to develop.
The final half hour is a Q&A, followed by the opportunity for you to purchase Sam’s books and get them personally signed.
So bring your pen and paper- or notebook. If you are bringing a laptop or notebook device PLEASE ENSURE IT IS FULLY CHARGED as sockets are limited and trailing wires can be a safety hazard.
Sam Maxfield is the author of six novels. Must be Mapton is the third of the humorous Mapton-on-Sea series. Find out more about her and her books on her website.
